I’ve been absent from my site here for a while. I’ve been absent from a lot of things. Those who know me know that I’ve suffered a severe tragedy in my life a few months ago, and I’ve been focusing most of my waking moments on that and will continue to do so for quite some time. Life since October 2011 changed drastically as I knew it, therefore my photography and any other “fun” things are on the back burner for a while until my situation gets under control.

I’ve had a lot of support from a lot of people, and for that I will be forever thankful. True friends show their true colors in difficult times, and you know who you are. I love you.

On the other hand, I still need to make a living so I am still squeezing in any paying photo work, so please still contact me if you have a shoot to be done.

Buffalo Unscripted

For those around Buffalo, it’s no secret that the Nation Preservation Conference is in town this week. The National Trust for Historic Preservation came to Buffalo over the summer to shoot a documentary about the city: “Buffalo Unscripted”. I won’t write so much about it because all the info can be found here:

I was lucky enough to be a part of it, being able to photograph Silo City and the Richardson Complex (while not that many my set of photos can be found here).

For the premiere showing of Buffalo Unscripted tonight at the Market Arcade theaters, I’ll have some work on display during a reception before the showing. I know it’s a bit last minute but that’s how it goes sometimes! Tickets are free and will go fast so get there early!

High Five

One of the best photographic experiences of my life was when I had the crazy opportunity to shoot one of the most prolific silent buildings on the east coast. Smack dab in one of the busiest areas of NYC, 5 Beekman Street finds it’s home just off the Brooklyn Bridge, near New York City Hall and the World Trade Center. I’ve followed and read elsewhere about this beautiful abandonment, always keeping in mind that this was one of the places I’d only dream about seeing in person, let alone actually photographing.

Until one fateful day back in the summer of 2011…
I get a phone call: “YOU GOT BEEKMAN!! Be down here in two days.”

Whaaaaat?! I was in disbelief. Seriously?? I wasted no time booking a flight and making arrangements. Two days later I was there, in awe, and still in disbelief. Until I went in. Into an abandoned building, in the middle of Manhattan, totally alone, quiet. The only person in an empty building watching and listening to the hustle and bustle of 6 million other people around you. And no one knows you’re there…

And then there was FIVE

The Palace at 5 Beekman, Temple Court, Beekman Palace… whatever you call it, words cannot describe it until you’re in it. Which is what I was, back in June 2011. There is no where else you can be in the middle of one of the largest cities in the world and be totally alone inside of a totally empty and beautifully decayed 9-story building. A rare opportunity to see… even more awesome to shoot. A beautiful atrium, ornate ironwork, solid woodwork. The Farwell building in Detroit mimicks Beekman but in my opinion doesn’t come close in the quality of work or attention to detail.

Soon this will be developed into a high end luxury hotel, so the timing was perfect. I will surely plan a stay here when it is done. Full set of pics below, and more to be added soon.

The Sweeper

The doors are closed for good. Seen in an old textile mill, somewhere buried in the foggy rural hills of Maryland… I’m trying to catch up on posting here but life gets in the way of time on the interweb. Funny, it should really be the interweb getting in the way of life – which is why you won’t find all those funny little social media icons all over the site here. No need for all that. I’m fine and happy with my own little space here, thankyouverymuch.

Uh oh, I’ll end this post here.

Tour the Terminal

Throughout this year, Buffalo Central Terminal is offering many public tours. Now is your chance to see this amazing architectural wonder inside and up close. Recently a bunch of friends and I visited and managed to get a little “private time” inside the main concourse while the main tour group was milling around outside. This place is amazing, and as many times as I’ve seen it i still can’t get enough.

What’s The Time?

Reminiscent of Grand Central Station in NYC, here stands the recently restored clock in the middle of the main concourse at Buffalo Central Terminal. This photo was taken on a recent tour with my super-wide angle lens to capture the greatness of the space in which it resides. The restoration of BCT is coming along nicely and hats off to the CTRC for doing such a great job.

A Rural Farm

One hot summer weekend while I had some visitors from out of town, we all decided to go take a drive through the scenic southern tier of NY. Late afternoon summer sun is always prime time for shooting infrared. I spotted this small farm and decided to roam around and take a few infrared photos here.

Buffalo is well-known for it’s grain elevator district in the old First Ward aka “Elevator Alley”. This particular one, the old Cargill-S, is the best for these repeating column views (in my opinion). These massive and historic concrete structures are iconic on the Buffalo landscape and are a real wonder to see up close.
