I visited the abandoned Weston State Hospital in West Virginia twice in the last few years. Both times were on legal photography tours, so I got to spend a lot of time there wandering the buildings and the grounds. The kirkbride is one of the oldest, one wing dates back to the civil war I believe. This photo was taken on the top floor of the main building, the women’s ward I think. It has a separate TB ward and forensic ward (for the violent and criminally insane patients). My first visit, the TB ward was open to us but on the second it had been locked down. You can see one set of photos from my second visit here.
